My girlfriend and I are currently part-way through watching season 3 of Blakes 7 on DVD. Despite the wobbly sets, atrocious video effects and occasionally absurd plotlines, I still rate it far more highly than most science fiction. The basic premise is more 1984 than Star Trek, featuring a group of convicted criminals who have found themselves acting as freedom fighters against a totalitarian regime.
But despite the early eighties clothing and hairstyles, and the dubious effects, it seems that it’s more than capable of producing a willing suspension of disbelief in my girlfriend. We were watching an episode which is mostly set in a stately home somewhere in rural Berkshire, and she said:
It must be nice for them being able to film on Earth for a change
The trouble is, she actually meant it!
