We’re both saddened to hear of the death of Sir Patrick Moore, astronomer, TV presenter, and general eccentric. We grew up with him as a regular staple of our television diet — whether hosting The Sky At Night, digitally augmented as the eponymous GamesMaster, or appearing for a xylophonic insert into a wide variety of programmes. His wit, enthusiasm and engaging quirkiness captivated and inspired a generation (or two). Television will be all the poorer for his absence.

Sir Patrick will be missed by so many that he inspired and entertained over the years. I hope the BBC will continue to make the Sky at night as a tribute.
