I’ve often thought that perhaps the delays and slowdowns that seem to plague so many computers are just the CPU’s way of getting revenge for the interminable delays that we make it sit through. If you buy a multi-core machine that can process billions of operations every second then only use it to browse the web, is it hardly surprising that it gets bored waiting for you to do something and decides to have a bit of a nap every now and then?
