This is the last Greys comic of 2013, so we decided to leave you with something a little festive.
The idea for this strip is one that’s been kicking around since the original 1994 incarnation of The Greys, and it felt like the right time to finally bring it to life (helped by the fact that we’ve recently drawn some child Greys that could be easily re-purposed). Although its genesis was nearly 20 years ago, I can still clearly remember that the basic theme was inspired by the “scientific version” of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star:
Scintillate, scintillate, globule vivific,
In vain do I ponder thy nature specific.
Precariously poised in the ether capacious,
Closely resembling a gem carbonaceous.
Scintillate, scintillate, globule vivific,
In vain do I ponder thy nature specific.
Merry Christmas (or other wintery festival of your choice) everyone!

Child 1: Please miss, what's a "reindeer"?
Child 2: And what's a "nose"?
[Caption: Some time later…]
[The teacher is in front of a blackboard which shows they've been discussing the meaning of "nose"]
Teacher: …so unless there are any more questions, I think we're ready to sing the song
All (singing): Rudolf the cybernetically enhanced large mammalian quadruped had a supremely lustrous high-intensity neon gas-discharge lamp in place of his external nasal orifice…
