The Greys

Right, let’s address the elephant in the room right from the start: this is a pretty poor example of The Greys. The joke isn’t up to much, it’s still using our old-fashioned background, and we haven’t even fleshed it out with any extra props. That’s why we’ve decided to offer it up as a bonus strip, outside of our regular schedule, so that you don’t feel like we’re foisting inferior goods on you and trying to pass them off as real.

So why bother posting it at all, if we’re not happy with it? Firstly it’s our Easter gift to you. But Easter doesn’t start until tomorrow (Good Friday), so why post it today (Mediocre Thursday)? To be honest with you, our stock of completed strips is depleted – apart from a couple of other “they’re not very good but they’ll do in an emergency” options. We’ve got a few new ones close to completion, but there is a chance that we won’t have anything in time for our regular slot, next Thursday. So if we don’t make it, this will serve as our strip for the next couple of weeks – buying us an extra week. Hopefully it won’t come to that, but things aren’t looking good right now.

Finally, I’d like to put this strip into context a little. It’s one of our oldest comics, dating back 15 years or so – hence the old-fashioned background. Way back then we still had hopes of getting The Greys printed as a regular strip in a magazine (we got as far as sending it to SFX magazine, then got a bit bored and abandoned the strip entirely for a couple of years). Each strip had a border, proudly proclaiming the name of “The Greys” along one edge. So the idea behind this strip was to not only have the joke you see above, but also to change the border to read “The Greens”.

Okay, you win: it still wouldn’t have been very funny.
