This strip first appeared in issue #249 of Linux (Pro) Magazine and was created in 2021, shortly after NASA’s Perseverance rover and Ingenuity drone began operating on Mars. At that time NASA released audio recordings that were captured by the rover… but historically audio on Linux has been something of a problem.

Elvie: it's amazing to think that I'm listening to the sound of the wind on Mars.
[Panel 2: Inside "Mars Mission Control". Various mission controllers are speaking]
Controller 1: We've lost audio again!
Controller 2: Restart the PulseAudio daemon.
Controller 3: Try running alsactl restore.
Controller 4: Check pacmd.
Controller 5: Come on team, we can fix this. We are *rocket scientists*, after all!!!
