This strip first appeared in issue #241 of Linux (Pro) Magazine during the coronavirus pandemic of 2020. At that time some sections of the population objected to being required to wear face masks in public indoor environments because it allegedly “encroaches on their civil liberties”. It amused us to note that a lot of those psuedo-libertarians are exactly the sort of people who previously would have preferred to wear a mask in some situations in order to hide their face from CCTV cameras.

[Panel 1, caption: "2019". Elvie and her friend are outside a crowded café with CCTV cameras pointing at them. Her friend is wearing a Guy Fawkes mask, of the type taken from "V for Vendetta"]

Elvie: Why are you wearing a mask?

Friend: Because I don't trust the government.

[Panel 2, caption: "2020": The scene is similar, but the café is less crowded and the tables more widely spaced. There are now additional signs indicating that masks must be worn (due to covid-19). Everyone is wearing a mask or protective outfit of some sort _except_ Elvie's friend]

Elvie: Why *aren't* you wearing a mask?

Friend: Because I don't trust the government.
